Edwin Jackson: Win, 7 IP, 8 H, 1 BB, 0 R, 4 K; 1-2, 1 BB, 2 R. Jackson did his best Stephen Strasburg impression by being a dominating force on the mound and a threat at the plate. He also dipped his face in powdered sugar, which indeed turned out as racist as you’d imagine.

It was almost three years ago to the day, on July 28, 2009, that the Nationals last won in Milwaukee. It had also been 79 years since a Washington baseball team was 20 games above .500. It too had been a lifetime since Tom Gorzelanny saw a woman’s breasts. Two of these streaks came to an end tonight, and let’s be honest, they were the more likely of the two to end. The Nationals finally got to Milwaukee in their own yard, which had been so hard to do before because of the distracting odor of cheese. But now, the Nationals have made Miller Park their house, which is really nice. Their other house lacked a roof, making having guests over during the rain difficult.
To be the first Washington team so far above .500 is impressive as well, until you remember that from 1971 until this year, there was no major league baseball team in Washington. The 2005-2011 Nationals you say? Oh I thought they were AAA given the way they played. The Nats are turning back the clock to the Senators of old not only with promotional jerseys but also with a high level of play, and constant discussions about how Herbert Hoover is ruining America. Hard to change the subject when Davey Johnson is so excited to talk about the first man he voted for.
Where do the Nationals go from here? What other streak stands to be ended? Could we finally see Teddy win one? Probably not since it’s so hard to get widespread support being on a third party ticket.
The Nats caught the Brewers at a good time, with Milwaukee struggling. I understand their predicament though. Having a deep fried Reuben at the Wisconsin State Fair made me struggle once too. And the deep fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And the deep fried bacon. God, with all tht food nearby I’m surprised anyone in Milwaukee is capable of movement.
Hopefully Washington will continue to skyrocket from here, using the rest of this series as a launching pad. Although that seems unlikely, given Washington’s disinterest in going for the stars.
